Restored industrial heritage of Vilaboa

Welcome to "O Forno do Cal"

The lime kiln of San Adrián is the only example of this type of construction on the Morrazo Peninsula and one of the best preserved in Galicia at an industrial level. This heritage represents a fundamental part of the economic and social history of our region.

History of the Kiln

The lime kiln of San Adrián opened its doors in 1936 and operated until the 1960s. Its operation depended on lime imported by sea from Santoña (Cantabria), as the area did not have this type of stones. The business faced severe difficulties coinciding with the start of the Civil War and the post-war period. These factors, together with modern industrialization, led to its definitive closure in the 1960s.
